Animation Technical Director

Reflector Entertainment is a totally new breed of studio committed to creating next-generation content for audiences around the globe. Reflector’s mission is to create Storyworlds: transmedia universes built from the ground up, releasing new and exciting narratives along a consistent schedule and across a wide variety of platforms. The platforms vary per Storyworld and can be PC/consoles/mobile video games, live immersive experiences, comic books, novels, television series, films, podcasts, etc. Our team is quickly growing, and we are currently looking for AAA talent that will drive our ambitious, large scale projects. Under the direct supervision of the Technical Director, while collaborating closely with the Animation Director, the Animation Technical Director will be responsible for the development of technical aspects of the animation, cinematic, and character pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve pipelines and processes;
  • Character rigging and skinning;
  • Setup and implementation of character related physics;
  • Facial animation set up and tools;
  • Animation and character optimization;
  • Provide front-line support to the animation & character teams on a daily basis to help find solutions to technical issues;
  • Act as a correspondent between the programming and animation teams;
  • Develop and optimize tools to enhance and facilitate the work for animators and character artists;
  • Impart with the animation team all technical constraints and explain their purposes;
  • Produce and\or update documentation and tutorial videos regarding the tools, methods, training and procedures for reference;

Requirements

  • University degree in computer engineering, diploma in 3D animation and related technical field, or similar work experience;
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the game industry, preferably as a TD Animation or in a similar position;
  • 3 years of experience as a Technical Director of Animation/Character Technical Director or in a similar position;
  • Shipped at least 2 games and experience working on a published game from conception to release, preferably on a ‘AAA’ console title;
  • Interest and experience in game technology development (engine, tools, animation, network, etc.) and cross platform development, an asset;
  • Strong knowledge of production environments;
  • Knowledge of real time animation systems, file formats and data used in animation;
  • Experience with systems such as Unreal Engine (preferred), 3ds Max (preferred), Maya;
  • High level understanding of methods for optimizing game art assets for game engines;
  • Experience with MEL/Python/Maxscript or similar systems required;
  • Knowledge oftechnological constraints on various platforms;
  • Have excellent organizational skills, be autonomous, and take initiative;
  • Must be flexible, and open-minded, and collaborative;
  • Have strong leadership skills and experience managing employees;
  • Excellent communication skills in French and English (both oral and written).
